Phoenix Pool Barriers
Permanent iron pool barriers and self-closing, self-latching gates, built around the City's rules.
Iron Gates Phoenix has crews that build iron pool fence and pool safety gates for Phoenix backyards. A Phoenix pool fence has to work as a barrier first and look good second, so we design to the City's barrier requirements from the start.
The City of Phoenix pool policy calls for a non-climbable barrier at least five feet high, with self-closing, self-latching gates. Latches sit four and a half feet above the ground, and any opening in the barrier has to be less than four inches wide.
Iron works well here because narrow vertical pickets leave nothing to climb, and the fence stays permanent and strong for years.

Self-closing hinges and a self-latching latch mounted high, tested on install day.

Narrow vertical pickets and rails placed so there's nothing for a child to climb.

Interior barriers that separate the patio doors from the pool deck, with gates swinging away from the water.

Removable mesh and aluminum fence exist too; we'll explain how they compare to iron.
| Item | City of Phoenix pool policy | How we build it |
|---|---|---|
| Barrier height | At least five feet, non-climbable | Iron fence built to height on the deck or ground |
| Gates | Self-closing and self-latching | Spring or hydraulic hinges and a gravity or magnetic latch |
| Latch height | Four and a half feet above the ground | Latch set and checked with a tape on install day |
| Openings | Less than four inches wide | Picket spacing and bottom gap sized under that |
| Interior gates | Open outward, away from the pool | Hinge side and swing drawn on the plan |
Where the barrier runs between the house and the pool, the City also asks that gates open outward, away from the pool. House doors that serve as that barrier must be self-closing and self-latching too.
Removable mesh pool fence comes down when you want the deck open, and aluminum is lighter and rust-free. Iron is the most permanent of the three and the hardest to damage. We build iron, and we'll tell you honestly if one of the others suits your yard better.
